What
are antioxidants?
The
common denominator in the process of ageing and its associated diseases
is called oxidative damage or oxy stress. Antioxidants are nutrients
that help prevent this damage.
Oxygen
is the basis of all plant and animal life. It is our most important
nutrient needed by every cell every second of everyday. We cannot
survive without it. Yet, ironically it is chemically reactive and
highly dangerous. Unstable oxygen can oxidise molecules and create
what is known as "free radicals". Free radicals are made in the
burning process including smoking, burning petrol to exhaust fumes,
radiation, frying, or braaiing food and normal body processes. This
leads to cellular change which triggers cancer, inflammation, arterial
damage, and ageing.
I
see that the recommended dosage of Prime 3 is six capsules per day.
I am a woman weighing only 60kg. Surely I should take less?
No.
There is a big difference between vitamin supplementation and an
antioxidant. Vitamin supplementation, such as our super formulation
Prime 2, gives you the balance of vitamins that your body needs
on a daily basis, and that are not obtained from our normal diet.
Vitamin
supplementation is essential. But, an antioxidant is a powerful
illness and ageing preventative. The formulation has been scientifically
balanced to ensure that you will receive the maximum amount of antioxidants
that will attack free radicals in your body.
I
am on Prime 1. Do I need to take Prime 3?
Yes. Prime 1 has in clinical studies been demonstrated to have very
powerful antioxidant properties. But, Prime 1 in itself is not sufficient
to act as a full spectrum total antioxidant.
Why
take such a broad based formula. Surely vitamin A and C are enough?
Not
all antioxidants act the same way on different parts of the body.
An antioxidant that may be excellent in say preventing strokes,
may not have the same properties in preventing certain cancers.
Many years of study have gone into Prime 3 to ensure that you receive
the very finest antioxidant formulation available.
